Some Tips and Tricks to help you Plan your Move and Packing
One month before you move you need to start gathering all your supplies. You'll need boxes, tape,
old newspapers and bubble wrap. You will also need to finalise any house or rent agreements and put all your
paperrecords (eg: leagl papers, medical/insurance records) in a safe and accessible place.
Your Mail will need temporarily re-directing so you should go down to the post office and speak to them there.
As well as this you should be giving out your new mailing address to everyone how needs it. Both Personal and Commercial
contacts will need your new details.
Plan your moving budget and make sure to save any moving receipts (many moving expenses are tax deductable).
Two weeks before moving you need to inform all your utility providers of
your move (Gas, Electricity and Phone companies). You will also need to recruit help for moving day and
confirm any travel arrangements. If necessary you may need to transfer or close your bank accounts.
For packing you will need some supplies and accessories (Boxes of various sizes, bubble wrap,
marker pens, tape measure, old blankets and newspapers, packing tape and scissors). Remember to keep your
money and or credit cards on hand so they are not accidently packed! Other items you will want easily accessible
are washbag items, snacks and first aid equipment.
You should mark each box with the room it
will be unpacked into in your new home. If you like you can even number the boxes and record what is in them.
When packing the boxes, try to make sure that the top closes. This makes it much easier and safer when it comes to
stacking them in the van.
Always mark Fragile items as clearly as possible.
